Photodegradation of perfluorooctanoic acid by 185 nm vacuum ultraviolet light.
The photodegradation of persistent and bioaccumulative perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in water by 185 nm vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light was examined to develop an effective technology to deal with PFOA pollution. PFOA degraded very slowly under irradiation of 254 nm UV light. However, 61.7% of initial PFOA was degraded by 185 nm VUV light within 2 h, and defluorination ratio reached 17.1%. Pseud...
متن کاملSources of ultraviolet light based on microwave discharges
Today microand nanoelectronics industry requires a source of extreme ultra-violet (EUV) radiation with a wavelength of 13.5 ± 1 % nm for high resolution projection lithography. The size of the emitting region must be less than 1 mm. One of the most promising sources of EUV light is considered to be a source that uses a pulsed CO2 laser radiation focused on a specially formed stream of droplets ...
متن کاملAluminum nitride nanowire light emitting diodes: Breaking the fundamental bottleneck of deep ultraviolet light sources
Despite broad interest in aluminum gallium nitride (AlGaN) optoelectronic devices for deep ultraviolet (DUV) applications, the performance of conventional Al(Ga)N planar devices drastically decays when approaching the AlN end, including low internal quantum efficiencies (IQEs) and high device operation voltages. Here we show that these challenges can be addressed by utilizing nitrogen (N) polar...
متن کاملUltraviolet Light
Ultraviolet light (UV) is a recognized disinfection alternative to chlorine and ozone in many applications from drinking water to wastewater treatment. UV provides effective disinfection without production of problematic disinfection byproducts. Information on the mechanism and application of UV for drinking water disinfection is presented. Advantages and disadvantages of the technique are disc...
متن کاملAtomic Oscillator Strengths in the Vacuum Ultraviolet
We have developed techniques to measure branching fractions in the vacuum ultraviolet using diffraction grating spectroscopy and phosphor image plates as detectors. These techniques have been used to measure branching fractions in Fe II that give prominent emission lines in astrophysical objects.
